Top 5 Health Insurance Myths
- Myth: Individual health insurance benefits are not as good as employer benefits. Truth: Hogwash. Individual health insurance is often more benefit-rich than employer-based plans.
- Myth: It's a good idea to add my family to my company's plan and pay the cost of their benefits. Truth: For healthy families, buying individual health insurance for your dependents, instead of adding them to your company plan, can save you up to 75% or more per month for the same benefits.
- Myth: If I'm laid-off, COBRA is my best option. Truth: Before you sign, shop an individual health plan with the same benefits and don't be surprised to save hundreds of dollars per month.
- Myth: My company buys health insurance cheaper than I ever could. Truth: Your employer pays for all healthy and unhealthy employees. With individual health insurance, you pay for only what you need.
- Myth: I'm healthy, so I don't need health insurance. Truth: We all need health insurance. At some point in our lives, we will all have an accident, get injured, or get sick. And at that point, we need insurance. Problem is we can't plan for these things and playing the odds is not in our favor.
Did You Know?

Idaho Health Insurance 101
1.4 million residents call Idaho home. On average, the annual income is $47,876 for Idahoans. While a majority of you enjoy employer healthcare from your job, more than 95,000 of your neighbors obtain individual health insurance policies straight from Idaho health insurance providers.
Based upon 2004 figures, for Idahoans that obtain health insurance through work, you pay $572 for individual coverage and $2,155 for family health insurance plans. In contrast, those that obtain individual health insurance on their own typically pay $162 for an individual and $539 for a family of four.
In reviewing these figures, it is clear that individual health insurance policies are more affordable than those offered through employer health programs. In addition, even if Idahoans wish to obtain health insurance through their large or small business health insurance programs, only 45% of private corporations provide their employees with insurance. And for companies that employ 50 or fewer employees, only 34% offer small business health insurance. As a health insurance agent, InsureMonkey is ready to help all Idahoans obtain the affordable health insurance everyone deserves.
