Top 5 Health Insurance Myths

  1. Myth: Individual health insurance benefits are not as good as employer benefits. Truth: Hogwash. Individual health insurance is often more benefit-rich than employer-based plans.
  2. Myth: It's a good idea to add my family to my company's plan and pay the cost of their benefits. Truth: For healthy families, buying individual health insurance for your dependents, instead of adding them to your company plan, can save you up to 75% or more per month for the same benefits.
  3. Myth: If I'm laid-off, COBRA is my best option. Truth: Before you sign, shop an individual health plan with the same benefits and don't be surprised to save hundreds of dollars per month.
  4. Myth: My company buys health insurance cheaper than I ever could. Truth: Your employer pays for all healthy and unhealthy employees. With individual health insurance, you pay for only what you need.
  5. Myth: I'm healthy, so I don't need health insurance. Truth: We all need health insurance. At some point in our lives, we will all have an accident, get injured, or get sick. And at that point, we need insurance. Problem is we can't plan for these things and playing the odds is not in our favor.

Did You Know?

Most of today's self-employed entrepreneurs are covered with individual health insurance plans. Why? Because they get the benefits they need at a fraction of the cost. And we all like to save money!

Arizona Health Insurance 101

The state of Arizona boasts 6 million residents and the present yearly income of a typical household is around $47,750.  Currently, many residents obtain employer health insurance.  However, a significant number of you, 258,341 to be exact, purchase individual health insurance for yourself or your family directly from Arizona’s health insurance providers.

Did you know these Arizona health insurance facts?

•    In 2004, on the individual market, the average individual paid $153 for an individual health insurance policy, and the average family of four paid $394 for family health insurance.
•    In 2004, on the group market, including large and small business health insurance policies, the average individual paid $813 for coverage, while the average family paid $3,234.

Many people do not realize that Arizona individual health insurance purchased directly from the health insurance providers is actually more affordable than it is on the group, or employer-based, market.

In Alaska, only 50% of private sector employers offer a small business health insurance plan and only 32% of employers with 50 employees or less offer them.  Subsequently, many people are looking elsewhere for their individual health plans and self employed health insurance. As a health insurance agent, InsureMonkey is designed to help exactly these people.
