How InsureMonkey Got Started.

It was a simple idea, really.  How could we help our friends and family get affordable health insurance without going insane?

Of course, we started where any right-minded person does when they have an idea and want to see if it’s already in use:  Google.  

We found a lot of websites that offered “free quotes” but nothing that seemed to make sense.  Every website we tried required us to give up personal information before they would show us a quote – name, email, phone number, height, weight, name of our firstborn, etc.  Obviously, none of this made sense to us.  And it certainly wasn’t easy.

So we decided to create a website that’s easy to use, friendly, and requires no personal information to shop for the best rates available on health plans.  That’s when the first iteration of InsureMonkey was born.  

We launched our beta site in June of 2009.  And boy did we have a lot to improve upon.

We realized that our beta site was easy to use for people who know exactly what they’re looking for in a health plan, but not so easy for the vast majority of people who are looking for a little help, education and understanding.  That’s why in this latest version we set out to improve the functionality of the quoting and application tool, streamlining the user flow to make a more efficient process, and add educational features throughout the site.

We’ve also upped our game on the service side, adding benefits like the Personal Shopper Program (PSP), the Consumer Advocate Representation and Education Service (CARES), and convenience features like Live Chat and E-Z Application.

However, we’re not done.  We appreciate being an open public resource for health insurance, but we know we have a lot of work ahead of us to improve and continue to earn your trust.

The Road Ahead

We’re working hard to develop consumer-friendly tools that help make it easier for you to choose a health plan.  We’re partnering with innovative companies to give you access to the healthcare of the future.  And we’ll continue to aggregate the most in-depth information on consumer feedback to their health plan, all in an effort to become the easiest and most comprehensive option available to you in health insurance.

And remember, we will always be free.
